The Piano Section of the 20th George Enescu International Competition reaches its final with three young performers from China, South Korea and Taiwan.
Two of them, Jeongwoo Lee and Pin-Hong Lin, have chosen a Fazioli F278 for their journey through the competition and for the Final, which will take place on 19 September at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest.
The choice was made at the semi-final stage. The six qualified pianists were able to decide which instrument they wished to perform on: Zuzanna Sejbuk, Jeongwoo Lee and Pin-Hong Lin chose the Fazioli F278, while the other three semi-finalists selected Steinway & Sons.
This is no small decision. In a competition of this level, each performer looks for an instrument that allows them to shape their sound freely, from the clarity of the most delicate passages to the projection required alongside an orchestra.
The Fazioli F278, a 278 cm concert grand piano, combines power, precision and a rich palette of tonal colours that explains its presence on international stages and at major competitions.
The Three Finalists
The jury, chaired by pianist Lilya Zilberstein, announced the three finalists on 17 September:
- Yiming Guo, China
- Jeongwoo Lee, South Korea
- Pin-Hong Lin, Taiwan
The Final will take place on 19 September 2026 at 6:00 pm at the Romanian Athenaeum. The finalists will perform with the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Daniela Candillari.
Yiming Guo will perform Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3; Jeongwoo Lee will perform Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2; and Pin-Hong Lin will perform Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2.
The F278 was also the instrument chosen by pianist and jury member Marie-Ange Nguci for her 16 September recital with violinist Hyeonjeong Lee. The programme included works by Ravel, Ysaÿe, Beethoven, Liszt and Prokofiev.
