Kawai K400 Chrome features the Millennium III Upright Piano Action, incorporating components made from ABS-Carbon, a composite material created by infusing carbon fiber into our renowned ABS Styran. ABS-Carbon is extremely strong and rigid, allowing action components to be made lighter without sacrificing strength. The result is a stronger, faster action that delivers greater power, improved control, and enhanced stability compared with conventional all-wood actions.
Kawai K400 Chrome. Die-Cast Aluminum Action Brackets
Manufactured using a dedicated mold, die-cast components have exactly the same shape and dimensions in every unit. Kawai K Series pianos feature three die-cast aluminum action brackets, providing greater strength, consistency, and stability, ensuring precise touch over many years.
Extended Key Length
Longer keys make playing easier and provide a more uniform response from the front to the back of the key surface. For the pianist, this translates into greater control and power with less effort.
Solid Spruce Soundboard with Progressive Thickness
The soundboard is the heart of the piano. Its function is to transform the vibrations of the strings into a rich, resonant sound. Kawai uses only quarter-sawn, straight-grained solid spruce for the soundboards of the K Series. Each soundboard features a strategically graduated thickness to maximize its sound-producing capabilities. Only soundboards that meet or exceed Kawai’s demanding quality standards are selected for use in its professional upright pianos.
Mahogany Hammer Mouldings with T-Stapled Hammers and Double Underfelt
Hammer mouldings made from mahogany are lightweight and exceptionally responsive. Used exclusively in Kawai’s highest-quality pianos, mahogany is employed for the hammer mouldings throughout the entire range of K Series professional upright pianos.
All K Series hammers are T-stapled to maintain their shape and feature an additional inner layer of underfelt that contributes to producing an exceptional tone.
Steel-Reinforced Keyslip
The keyslip is the long, horizontal wooden piece covering the front of the keys. Due to its length, thinness, and wooden construction, it can warp or bend as humidity levels change, potentially causing the keys to stick.
To eliminate this problem, a heavy-gauge steel angle profile is incorporated to prevent the keyslip from warping or bending in any direction. As a result, the keys move more freely, virtually eliminating the possibility of them rubbing against or becoming stuck on the keyslip.
Keybed and Reinforcements
The keybed must be strong and stable enough to support the action assembly and maintain proper regulation throughout years of intensive use. K Series keybeds are constructed from strong, high-density laminated woods and reinforced with rear supports attached to the cast-iron frame. These reinforcements ensure stable positioning and provide rigidity, preventing energy loss during performance.
