Technical specifications

Yamaha YA118. Dimensions and structure

Yamaha YA118. Height: approximately 118cm

Width: 152cm

Depth: 61cm

Weight: typically between 220kg and 230kg in standard finishes

Yamaha YA118. Action and mechanics

Acoustic mechanism with Yamaha’s graded hammer action, known for fast response and wide dynamic range; leveled keys for uniform touch.

88 keys with traditional acoustic action; pedals: sustain, sostenuto/half and soft (typical of acoustic upright pianos).

Yamaha YA118. Sound and materials

Soundboard made from carefully selected wood for rich resonance and clear projection.

Bass strings designed for tonal depth even in a relatively compact piano.

Advanced hammers designed for expressive response from pianissimo to fortissimo.

Presentation and market positioning

Most references place it as a high-end acoustic upright piano for demanding use, suitable for serious studios, advanced pianists, or contexts where quality is required without moving to a full-size grand piano.

Continues the tradition of Yamaha’s SU series, recognized as one of the most refined among Yamaha upright pianos.

Critical and comparative analysis

Size vs. sound quality: At 118cm tall, the bass register will be more limited than in taller pianos (121cm like the U1 or SU121). This does not disqualify it, but anyone seeking maximum depth and tonal power should consider taller models.

Conclusion

The Yamaha YA118C is a well-built instrument with good response and high-end sound within the compact upright piano segment.
