Yamaha YU121DS. This model is a variant of Yamaha’s well-known U / YU series upright piano. It is a 121 cm acoustic upright piano based on the U1 / YU1 design, with a robust build and sound projection suitable for teaching environments, advanced practice, and small recital spaces.

It is manufactured with superior structural and tonal consistency, especially in the wood, pinblock, and internal action components.

It is considered a professional benchmark within the compact upright category due to its precise action, durability, and tuning stability when properly maintained.

Approx. height: 121 cm
Approx. width: 153 cm
Typical depth for pianos in this range: 61–62 cm
88 keys with traditional Yamaha acoustic mechanical action.
3 pedals: damper (sustain), practice/mute, and soft.
Traditional acoustic piano construction with spruce soundboard and high-quality strings (consistent with U-series design).

Full and clear sound with good projection for its size. It does not reach the depth of a grand piano, but it provides a solid balance between power and dynamic control for classical repertoire, jazz, pop, or chamber music.

Its sound projection and action response are generally considered superior to basic household uprights, placing it in the category of a serious study or pedagogical instrument.

Compared to a Yamaha U1: basic specifications are very similar in size and action.
Compared to taller uprights (U3 / YUS3): the taller models offer more bass presence and overall projection thanks to a larger soundboard. If you require more volume or extended tonal range for recitals, they may be better options.

The Yamaha YU121DS is a solid acoustic upright piano based on the core design of the renowned U series. It offers reliable action and balanced sound for serious use.
