The piano, as we know it nowadays, originates from the zither, an african come asian inspired instrument made up of several strings placed on a small board which vibrate due to the friction created by fingernails or a sharp object. As a consequence of a long evolutionary history and of the perfecting of instruments such as the Sitar, the clavichord, the harpsichord and the first piano, called the Critofori piano forte, we have arrived today at what is known as the modern piano, divided into two groups: upright and grand piano.
